Two partners – husband and wife – started a small construction firm nearly a half-century ago that has thrived through a hard-earned reputation for quality and dedication to excellence.
Lord & Son Construction was founded in 1975 by Leven D. and Gail Lord in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After completing his Building Construction degree at the University of Florida in 1962, Leven went on to further his construction management skills through employment with various construction firms for several years. Leven moved to Fort Walton Beach and started his own commercial construction company, founded on the principles of quality construction at a fair price. They worked side by side to start the company, with Gail managing the company and Leven managing the company’s projects in the field. Their son, Leven Drew “Spike” Lord was raised and brought up within the company. At a young age he began working projects in the field and for more than three decades has helped build the company to what it is today. As the namesake “Son” in the company’s name “Lord & Son,” Spike now leads the company as President.
At the heart of our success is our team of more than 40 employees, whose average career with the company spans more than 20 years. Their passion, commitment, experience and integrity are a central part of every project we deliver.

Our current bonding capacity is over $100 million and we are licensed to perform construction in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Pat O’Brien’s Restaurant – Destin
The Award of Excellence in the GC/CM $10-$20 million category. The restaurant is a mixed use 4-level waterfront development at Harbor Docks and includes over 40,000 square feet of restaurant, bar, outdoor dining and four 2-story condominiums.
Eastside Development at the Northwest Florida Regional Airport
The Award of Excellence in the GC/CM Institutional $10-$20 million category. Developed over 22 acres for 16,000 square foot rental car administrative and maintenance facilities, 130,000 gallon fuel storage area; 5 – bay carwash and 5-island covered fueling station and a 12,000 square foot cargo/maintenance facility with miles of site utilities and roads.
Christ Our Redeemer Church
The Award of Excellence in the GC/CM Institutional $3-$10 million category. An 18,000 square foot facility with the unique features of 139’diameter round building structure with 90’ arched glue lam beams with tubular steel and 40’ glass curtain wall with 60’ bell tower.
First United Methodist Church of Niceville Children’s Education Building
The Award of Excellence in the GC/CM Institutional $3-$10 million category. This facility is 32,000 square feet brick structure with undersea world and beach themed mobile displays and wall coverings with unique interior hallway structure finishes.
Mossy Head Elementary School
The Award of Merit in the GC/CM Institutional Category $10-$20 million. This project included 3 classroom wings, administration wing, library, kitchen, CCTV Studio and 19,000 gal per day Sewage Treatment Plant.
Builder of the Year - AIA
